Dear (individual),

My name in Joshua Boudreau and I am a student studying Set and Props at Toi Whakaari NZ Drama School. I am emailing to see about the possibility of interning with you and your company. I am particularly interested in (insert area of specialty company works in).

Attached in a copy of my CV and link to my digital portfolio below. I’ve had experience in many different areas of making and believe I could work well with your team. I hope to have the opportunity to discuss with you about how I could help support in an internship role.

Cheers,

PRODUCTION ROLES

For my production roles for 2nd year I would like to most build on my soft skills of collaborating with other makers and leading others. As well I am always interested in building upon my skill in every area of physical making. With the production roles I have ranked the ones involving film first as I want to go into film and possibly behind the camera so I see those as a great opportunity to see how others work in that role.

Ranked in order (top to bottom)

  • Mise En Scene
  • 3rd year designer films
  • Term 4 production
  • Set and Props film
  • Toi Film
  • Music Video
  • Double bill

INDEPENDENT RESEARCH PROJECT

Skill I would like to develop through my IRP:

  • Self time management
  • A more optimal work flow
  • Filming my process
  • Welding
  • Molding/Casting
  • Advanced carpentry
  • 3D Modeling

Options below

Akira Bike

This would be a non functioning replica of the Akira bike. Preferably full scale. Multiple versions have been made with progress info on the various stages of the build. The main structure would be a welded steel frame covered in fiberglass panels. There would space left internally for the future if I wanted to make it a functional bike.

Reinhardt Hammer from Overwatch (game)

This was a weapon I had plans to do before being accepted in Toi Whakaari for a full scale Reinhardt cosplay. The main construction could be made out of a variety of materials but most possibly foam for lightness. Would include some electronics with LEDs, and fans/smoke.

Shazam movie suit

The movie suit has many small details that would each present a new challenge which would make for a nice build. The fabric undersuit has a repeating small 3d pattern across the whole suit. Which is a different size depending on the area of the suit. The armor parts (gauntlets, belt, chest emblem) would all be cast out of a flexible resin like DragonSkin from Smooth On or something similar. there would be LEDs in the gauntlets, belt, and chest emblem as in the movie. This would also be a good exercise in creating functional costume boots.

Aquaman movie suit

This movie suit for Aquaman would entail a fair portion of sculpting to then mold and cast. Such as the arm, boots, belt, and side armor. The top would either be a cast of DragonSkin type resin off a life cast of my chest. Another option would be to create the top using EVA foam then coating in Smooth On’s flexible foam sealer to give it a hard looking finish for painting.

Harry Potter brooms

Recreating the brooms from Harry Potter would involve fine wood carving and some testing to get the appropriate look for the straw ends without making them look shiny and too firm.

Bakugou costume (right) from My Hero Academia

Bakugou (right) is shown here in a promotiona art piece for the anime he is a character of. There are a few cosplayers who have recreated this armor using mostly EVA foam. A number of the costume pieces can also be done using 3D modeling to create prints to use or mold and cast, such as the bullets or grenades.
